Yes, Meditation is a Foundational Magickal Practice #magick #occult #daemonolatry
People often misunderstand my position on things because they may have only read a single book or two of mine. To fully understand my positions, however, it is often necessary to read my entire body of work. Just because I don’t beat something to death in every guide or book I write, doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s important to some degree.
Recently, someone who started out reading my Daemonolater’s Guides asked me if I thought meditation was an important part of magickal practice. Well, if you read my article here, and you’ve read my two foundational Daemonolatry books The Complete Book fo Demonolatry and The Daemonolator’s Guide to Daemonic Magick, you’d know that I do think meditation is an important foundational practice for the Daemonolatry Magician. My bad. I try not to repeat myself anymore than necessary because I figure that the people who are reading my books have already read the foundational material and they are practicing Daemonolaters. If not, it is perfectly natural that they would have these types of questions.
So – is meditation a requirement? For your average spiritual practitioner, it really depends on your tradition and your spiritual goals. For Buddhists, for example, meditation is a spiritual staple. For Luciferians and traditions whose primary practice is meditation, absolutely. But for spiritual Daemonolatry, it’s not 100% necessary, though most do practice it, whether it’s meditation on a sigil, or ascension work. Some practitioners are content to simply pray and leave offerings and that’s okay. But for magicians, meditation is a foundational practice you can’t ignore or slack on. This is the reason the meditation practice modules are included in both The Complete Book of Demonolatry and The Daemonolater’s Guide to Daemonic Magick. Spirituality is not one-size-fits-all. And since different practitioners of Daemonolatry want and need different things, my goal is to just provide the tools and allow readers to put together what works for them. It’s not my job to tell you how to think or exactly how-to-practice. That would be insulting to your intelligence. It’s about giving you the information and tools you need to inspire your personal spiritual development and your personal relationship with the Daemonic divine.
Meditation is important in energy work, self-work, and it’s especially important for focus. Not to mention it’s imperative if you seek to do work in the astral temple. Learning to be still, observant, in the present moment, and focused on your intent goes a long way to manifesting your magickal goals.
So no – I don’t write books upon books of poetic purple prose describing meditations you can do. There are plenty of books out there filled with Daemonic meditations. I’m just not a purple prose kinda gal. Remember – I had a journalism professor who said about metaphorical laden prose, “If you can’t explain a topic clearly in as few words as possible, you don’t know your topic well enough and have no business writing about it.” This is why so many of my books are short, sweet, and to the point.
Plus, I have always worked on the premise that serious practitioners of magick are highly intelligent people. Perhaps that’s a mistake on my part, because it doesn’t help those who need a lot of reassurance or step-by-step instruction. On the upside – they can go back to the foundational books for some of that. Just know that my exclusion of that hand-holding in The Daemonolater’s Guide series or any of the non-foundational books (the lack of beating meditation into my reader’s brains) is due to the fact that my body of work is so large, that I would be doing my long time readers a disservice by continually repeating myself for the sake of those who have not read the foundational material. I write for Daemonolaters. It is what it is.
That said, I do hope that this better explains my stance on meditation.

I agree with you. If someone only wants to practice the religious aspects of Daemonolatry, meditation may not be as important. Other the other hand, it can be difficult for some magicians to practice even those purple prose visualizations without developing a solid foundation in meditation and training their inner eye to “see.”
