Anne O'Connell,  Audrey Brice,  S. Connolly,  S. J. Reisner,  the writing life

2018 Publishing Schedule (Tentative) #goals

2017 was a bust for me. From June onward I was so busy focusing on in-person signings, conventions, parties and public speaking, that actual writing took a back seat while I juggled communication, planning, marketing, and prep work for said conventions.  I only managed the equivalent of ONE novel last year, down from my usual two or three (plus novellas, articles, NF, and short stories). Granted it was twice the length of one of my usual novels.  This has taught me one thing — first, I need to carefully ration my conventions and signings in 2018, and second, I need to focus on the writing.

While I did manage a lot of writing in 2017, little of it made it into editing. This means that there is going to be a DUMP of finished books releasing in the first three months of 2018. So it will either be one non-fiction and two novels releasing Jan-Mar 2018, or I’ll release one non-fiction in December 2017, and two novels in Jan-Mar 2018. Either way – three books should be dropping within four months. That’s all editorial.

My goal in 2018 is to WRITE at least 4 more books and at least 4 more Thirteen Covens novellas.  That doesn’t mean release all that I write in 2018 in 2018, but rather at least get the damn things out of my brain.

My late 2017 to Early 2018 Priorities:

  • Finish revision + Edits on Eagle’s Talon Gray and get it out.
  • Revise and Edit Falling From Grace and get it out.
  • Finish and Edit Daemonic Prosperity Magick and get it out.

The books and stories I want to write or finish in 2018 (as of today 11/25/17):

  • Blackrose Coven  (novella – Thirteen Covens #8) – about 1,700 words in
  • Illuminated Darkness (novel- OTS #5)  – about 784 words in.
  • Emily Ever After (novel – Tribes of Tara #2) – about 2,500 words in.
  • Inherited Djinn (novel – Djinn & Bourbon #1)- about 3,200 words in.
  • Collaring Amy (novel – Gilded Lily #5) – 0 words.
  • Tiamat-Leviathan (novella – Thirteen Covens #9) – 0 words.
  • Ashtaroth Briarwood (novella – Thirteen Covens #10) – 0 words

There may be some non-fiction in here, too.

All of this amounts to roughly 400,000 words in 2018 (I tend to write shorter novels in the 50-70K range). Meaning I will need to write 1,500 words a day minimum to reach my goals. NovelRama and NaNoWriMo should help me knock 100K of that out of the park, leaving 300,000 for the other 327 days.  This also theoretically means I could take one hundred days off because 1500×200 = 300,000. Again, that doesn’t mean I’m going to edit all of it in 2018. Or release it for that matter. But I can at least get the initial drafts done.

This at least covers two Audrey Brice titles, one SJ Reisner title, and one Anne O’Connell title. It also leaves room for some S Connolly releases as well. So that is the plan. Working on adjusting my Sorath model again to see what I can do with it.

As for public appearances, my plan is to attend the following –

  • Denver Comic Con 2018 – Providing I can get panels and/or table(s). Everything has been sent in, now we’re just waiting on hearing back to see if we have tables etc…
  • Ghost Town Writer’s Retreat – Because it sounds like fun. Not because I have a table or panels planned. I might sit on a panel or two. A friend and I thought an Erotic Horror panel would be a blast.
  • Colorado Gold Conference – Because I’ve been going for the past three years and I’m the 2018 IPAL Chair, plus it’s one of the best regional writers’ conferences hands down.
  • MileHiCon50 – Probably panels, but I have a friend who offered to share her standing table reservation with me. Which is awesome. I have so many awesome friends. Love them!

There might be a signing or two locally, perhaps at a friends’ metaphysical shop again, but we haven’t planned it yet. 🙂  These are fun.

Finally, I plan to get more playtime in for 2018. In 2016 I had surgery that spring and it kept me indoors all summer recovering. In 2017 my husband had surgery and that kept us indoors for a lot of the summer. So in 2018 — no surgery. I’m hoping for bike rides, hikes, walks, and more outdoor BBQs, nights by the fire, and working in the garden.

That said — that’s my 2018 plan, along with a monthly lunch with some of my indie writer friends. I am loving my life, but it can sometimes be a bit exhausting.  Love all of you who read my books and my blog. {{hugs}}
