No Novel Madness November

2007 was the last year I officially participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I succeeded in pushing out a 60K novel that year. The novel was Warrior’s Blood Red, the second book in the Sorcerers’ Twilight trilogy.

Every year since then I’ve kind of done an unofficial NaNo where I work on projects in progress and cheer on friends. Long gone are the days where I have the luxury of having November off to work on a new project. I suppose we can say I’ve kind of outgrown NaNoWriMo.  Deadlines on projects that have actual publication dates take precedence.

So this year I won’t be doing an unofficial NaNo. I’m pretty sure I won’t miss it since the past three years of my unofficial NaNo’s mostly consisted of me cheering on friends and not bothering to post my own word counts. I was just too busy. If things go as planned, I’ll have Rising Darkness out soon (looks like beginning of November at this point) and I may just take November easy this year. I’ll be working on several in-progress projects, yes. But all writers need a little break. I’ve already had a few NF books, several short stories, and one novel published this year (with another one coming next month). I think I deserve a quiet November in 2013.

I’ll be working on DOM359 and some NF projects that I’ve been making slow progress on. But otherwise – I’m not going to push it.  I have some domestic chores I’ve been slacking on that need doing, and my husband and I have guests coming for Thanksgiving again this year.

Nonetheless, I will still cheer my friends participating next month! Give me a shout out in the comments below to tell me if you’re doing NaNoWriMo and I’ll be sure to swing by to cheer your progress!   🙂
