Progress

We had two choices for this month’s Merry-Go-Round Blog Tour topic. We could discuss current projects or progress. Since I already posted a current projects post just a week or so ago, progress it is!

Progress, for me, is a crap-shoot. It really depends on how the story is flowing on any given day.  Sometimes I need more time to mull things over. But here’s an interesting question – what is progress?

I contend  that progress can be measured in more than word counts or “things” crossed off the to-do list. Sometimes progress comes in figuring out a plot point or exploring a concept more completely. Sometimes progress is made by NOT writing, and instead, thinking something through.

Regardless, progress really is one of those dynamic things. Sometimes it’s consistent and steady. Other times it’s sporadic. Each situation, each book, is different and progress is made by varying degrees depending on a multitude of factors.

An interesting point – I make a great deal of progress on a lot of my books while in the shower. That’s one of my thinking places. In the summer, progress on writing often happens while I tend my garden. Where do you experience the most progress while not in front of your computer?
