The Art of iEverything…
So I decided to take the plunge and put my books on iTunes. After all, my friend Bernadette Marie has had wonderful sales numbers on iTunes. It can never hurt a writer to get more exposure and have their books available from all of the popular distribution outlets.
With high hopes I signed up to become a publisher on iTunes. All was going well until I signed up only to discover that in order to directly upload anything to iTunes, all books needed ISBNs and you needed a Mac. As an independent publisher/author and PC user, this miffed me a little bit. My friend told me she’d be happy to upload a few of my books for me.
But that’s when my husband stepped in and said, “You know, when I start doing music, I’d like to be able to upload it to iTunes.” Thus was born the idea that we’d get a Mac and, alas, I’d buy a substantial block of ISBNs in order to start putting my books on iTunes, and eventually we’d get some ISMNs and put up my husband’s music.
$1500 and two weeks later I still don’t have any books on iTunes. However, I’m getting closer. There are a lot of formatting hoops you have to jump through. I’m learning it though. Once I figure out my formatting, I should be able to get the books put up without any issues whatsoever.
On that note – in order to get Training Amy up on iTunes, I had to remove 24 “Fucks”, the words pussy and cock, and I learned that clitoris is far more acceptable than clit. Thus was born the “Sweet” version of Training Amy which, hopefully, will eventually be on iTunes. My other two test MS, Outer Darkness and Into Darkness, need some formatting adjustments. Evidently you can’t have different sized text in the body of your text, or Apple rejects it. They reject for a lot of things. Each of my books has been rejected a minimum of 3 times so far. But eventually I’m hoping they will have nothing left to reject. Once that happens I’ll be home free and you will be able to download many of my books on your Apple device (except for most Anne O’Connell titles, unless I want to make sweet versions of them, too). If you want to read Anne uncensored – check out Amazon. Speaking of which, I’m going to be putting out the re-edited version of Amy out soon. There were about 15-20 typo + usage errors in the MS that my last editor didn’t catch (because we’re all human) and I finally got around to fixing them.
Back to work writing. I know you guys are expecting books and I am writing my little eyes off, though admittedly iTunes has sucked up two days of writing time this week. Sorry about that.
