More Thoughts on Pro-Life

I have a crazy theory I’d like to share with the gentle reader. Did you know that an educated woman is less likely to have children? Did you know that the number of white women breeding big families has dropped significantly in the last 20-40 years?  All the while – the pro-life movement has become more adamant.

Do you think the predominantly white Evangelical Christians are pushing the anti-abortion bit because they’re afraid white people will quit having kids altogether? Any bets some of them are worried people of other races will out-breed us and soon, very soon, caucasians will no longer have the power? That we’ll be the minority?

Not only that, but new statistics show the population of the U.S. is actually decreasing because couples (of all ethnic and racial backgrounds) are choosing to have fewer kids just because kids are friggin’ expensive.

And they REALLY want us to keep producing children. I’ve seen a ton of advertisements in the past five years “warning” career women of the dangers of waiting until you’re too old to have kids and encouraging women to get pregnant while they’re young. All brought to you by Infertility Specialist’s associations.  Basically saying, “Well, if you hadn’t chosen your career over a family, you wouldn’t need these expensive infertility treatments!”

I’ve even seen several news stories on the subject recently and there was an article in Time magazine a few years back warning women of the same thing. But women, thrilled with their freedom of choice, haven’t been listening.

The next best thing? Doing away with abortion by legislating that life begins at conception. Guess what? With that – you can conceivably (no pun intended) eliminate popular forms of birth control, too. Like birth control pills which basically keep a fertilized egg (i.e. human life) from implanting into the uterine wall.

Sure – perhaps I’m reading too much into it, but is seems awfully coincidental that I keep seeing all these news reports and statistics and the right wing is really pounding their pulpit on the abortion issue and pandering to their political base with the “ban abortion” bit (which actually seeks to go further than just prevent abortions).

Because you know — even at 7 billion or whatever the hell the population of earth is at the moment — we’re an endangered species (evidently).

Oh, and for Governor Rick Perry who says people who say, I would never choose an abortion for myself, but I will stand by a woman’s right to choose, are just people wanting their cake and eating it to — to him I say this, “That’s like pro-lifers saying life is sacred and precious and yet they’re all pro-war, and pro-death penalty.”  The latter is far more hypocritical imho. The former is just someone saying that they don’t wish to impose their will on anyone else (let them hash that out with the God of their understanding on their own – no middle man required!).

I am pretty sure there’s a much bigger agenda at work behind trying to find ways to make women produce more spawn.  And it’s not because we’re a dying species or because Jesus cries every time a fetus is aborted. Nor is it because most of these folks have a deep love and respect for life. And it may not even be because they want women who have pre-marital sex to be punished (even though I’ve been told several times, by pro-lifers themselves, that’s a big factor behind the pro-life movement).  I really think it’s all about numbers. The “enemy” or the “competition” has more numbers than we do and our numbers are falling, folks!  If we’re not careful, those with more numbers will “take over”.

So that’s my crazy theory. Take it as you will.
