Day Twenty: Talismans – Discipline #DoMagick

Today’s talisman, it’s kind of funny because I was looking at coloring pages and I found this beautiful mandala inspired picture and I printed it out and decided to color it. It took me about forty-five minutes to do it and as I was coloring I kept thinking to myself, discipline. Commitment. Repetition. Working toward a goal. Just when I thought I was closer to being done, the page seemed to go on and on. The repeating pattern, and colors…

Forty-five minutes later, when I’d finished it, I realized all the while, while focusing on each repeating color, sure to not mess them up, that I’d been imbuing the mandala with concentration and discipline. Diligent work that finally produced this finished piece.

A talisman charged with discipline and focus. I chose red for passion, orange for creativity, blue for empathy and emotional wisdom, purple for power (since creative power is this week’s focus) and yellow again for that initial idea.

My husband asked me last night, “What’s with the sudden art projects?” I’m not one to generally do art every day. Oh sure, he’s seen me go on a binge and crack open a canvas and paints, or pull out the sketch pad every now and again, but he’s never seen me do 20 days worth of art projects so I told him to watch me go for another 10 days, then explained the talisman challenge. With a nod he was like, “Cool. That makes sense.” And that was that. It made me realize that perhaps I need to commit to one art project a month, even if it’s coloring a simple mandala from pre-made coloring pages. A talisman can be anything, after all. It’s what you put into it mentally that counts.
