June #DoMagick – Enchantments

This month I’m going to do a repeat of an enchantment I actually did last June because I’m starting to feel the anxiety of convention/conference season. As many of you know, I suffer from extreme social anxiety.  I am terrified of public speaking and having to be around people, and yet – as a modern author – that’s part of the job whether you like it or not. So I fake it (rather well actually), but I find social interaction with large groups completely exhausting. Last year a fellow magician and friend suggested creating a sigil for success at these events, and feeding it all of my social anxiety in order to charge the sigil. I only did it for one event last year with a disposable sigil, but I thought, why not create a more permanent enchanted item for that purpose that I can use for the rest of the year and potentially into the future? It would need regular feeding, but that’s not too difficult. I have a lot of anxiety to give it.  Plus, with #DoMagick in June, we’ll actually be able to test how well the enchantment of the item is working because I’ll be taking it to DCC18. I’ll use it again in September and October.

I think this is what I’ll be doing. The work, of course, is rather standard (and not exciting in the way of blog entries), but effective. Basically, I take the first week to “make” the item, and enchant while I make it. Then the following three and a half weeks I’ll just spend that half hour a night feeding all of my anxiety into the item.  Probably right before bed because it will help me sleep better.

I’m even thinking of carving the sigil in wood. Seriously – I’m looking for magickal reasons to use the new Dremel.  🙂

I seem to be seeing that often… author or public figures of some type who have social anxiety. It’s an odd but common pairing.
I think you have a great idea for an enchantment, and I look forward to hearing about how it turned out for you.
I have no doubt it will be a resounding success. 😀
