Wow, Faux News! Really?

Let’s face it – I expected it. It was only a matter of time before Fox News’ (Faux News) Fox & Friends pissed in the Post Toasties of Wiccans and Pagans. If you haven’t seen it yet – here is this week’s gem of douche-baggery:

Geez, let me see – Yule, Imbolc, Ostera, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh, Mabon, Samhain. (I can give you their Daemonolatry equivalents as well.) Yep, that’s eight. I can list them and I didn’t even have to look them up. I could tell you what each one is about, too. Where did you get 20 pagan holidays, Fox?

You mean to tell me these commentators can’t even count?

While I’m a middle aged woman, I’ve never been divorced, I’ve never been a midwife. Nope. I’ve worked in both accounting and publishing my entire life. Only married once and still very happily married. Upper middle-class. I’m also not a shiftless layabout as suggested by the blonde.

As for incense, I have allergies, so I tend to use it sparingly. I played D&D in high school (back in the 80’s), and so did all of my Christian and Jewish friends. Hell, back in the 80’s everyone played D&D at least once (unless they had a stick up their ass).

So, Faux News, stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Sure, I could post links to petitions to try to get Faux to apologize, or tell Faux to fire these idiots already, but that’s futile. They do, after all, have a right to free speech, even if it is ignorant hate speech. This isn’t the first time these folks have stuck their feet in their mouths and it won’t be the last. They’re constantly spouting ignorant bigotry and spreading misinformation, fear, and discontent. It’s what they do for a living.

They’re not journalists. They’re fear mongers.

Last time I checked, being inclusive is not about being “politically correct”. It’s about being an adult and respecting the fact that your own narrow world-view isn’t the only viewpoint out there.  I don’t expect non-pagans to like my beliefs, agree with them, or try to include my beliefs as their own. But I do expect that freedom of religion extends to everyone. That includes pagans (of ALL flavors).

Not to mention pagans take their celebrations very seriously. Most pagans made a choice to convert to their religion/spiritual path. With that conversion often comes some seriousness about acknowledging the turning wheel.  That’s something some mainstream religions can’t say.

Just sayin’…. Of course if you tell some Christians (including the folks on Fox & Friends) “Happy Holidays” they’ll cry that they’re being persecuted.  ::eyeroll::

I’ll tell you what, Fox & Friends, you can say you’re persecuted when it’s okay for people to say that all Christians play D&D, and are twice-divorced middle-aged women who practice midwifery and burn a lot of incense.

One thing is certain – if the shoe were on the other foot – Fox & Friends would be crying foul.   😉

I am so glad to see support for our community, and that not everyone is an ignorant bigot like they employ at “Faux News.” (I really like that, I might start using that!)

Oh, and to add to your list of Pagan Holidays: Juleblot, Disablot, Ostarablot, Walpurgisnacht, Midsummerblot, Freyfaxi, Haustblot, and Winternacht 🙂

I’ve been a practicing pagan for 29 years. Of course I’d support the community. Technically those are the Germanic (it appears)equivalents to the same pagan holidays I’ve listed above for those who don’t know. Most pagans (including the type of paganism I practice) have those same 8 holidays, just differently named.
