Plans for the Year Ahead

A friend of mine said that today seems like a day to take a long and thoughtful look at goals for the year ahead.  I agree.  A lot of people start their years with New Years Resolutions. I made a resolution years ago to make no more resolutions. Instead – I start by updating my goal lists.

As an independent publisher, independent author, and small press author the first goal list I look at is the publication schedule.

First things first. I am neck deep in Into Darkness and while this book is dragging ass, it will get done hell or high water. My editor has already been through the first part of the book. The second half is still in my hands. It’s the story resolution I’m struggling with at the moment. Something is still missing and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Second – Switched takes precedence over any other fiction I may be working on.

In the NF department my only goal is to finish cleaning up Nuctemeron Gates and get My Name Is Legion happily to press in January.

All of this for first quarter of 2012. Normally I would say these are lofty goals, but the reality is that most of this stuff is already done (just waiting for editing), almost done, or in progress. It’s just a matter of completion. Like usual, I take on more than I can chew sometimes. The beauty is that I should have more time in January to really work on writing with the new schedule and all.  I’ll only be working 3-4 days a week at the day job which is huge!  That leaves me at least 1.5 days a week for writing that I didn’t have before.

I won’t revise the goal list until some of these are finished and then we’ll revisit. Until then – keep your goal lists manageable and tidy! Here’s hoping 2012 is productive for you and yours and that this post finds you all healthy and happy!
